Historically in around 1086 Croydon Town was a market town that had a church and a mill. The name Croydon Town was known as Croindene. Croydon Town was the host to the first public train service in 1803. Croydon Town is situated on the same line as a Roman road and some evidence shows it could have been a Roman Settlement. Croydon Town in the mid 19th century was a destination for leisure due to the spa. Croydon Town was one of the first towns to appoint a local board of health.
