Chelsea Town comes from Chelceth, Chelchith and Chelsey and means landing place on the river for chalk. Chelsea Town had a local ferry. In 1718 Chelsea Town had a silk company that raised their own silkworms. 1769 saw Chelsea Town producing China and is thought to be the first to make porcelain in England. Chelsea Town was very popular for fashion in the 1960’s.
